What’s the one piece of gear you couldn’t live without?
Definitely my Kontrol MK3 S61.
What’s the weirdest or most unexpected thing in your studio right now?
I would say my oldie but goodie Kurzweil K2600X can do the weirdest stuff in my studio, which also includes the Arturia MikiFreak, Arturia PolyBrute, and a few toys (Novation Circuit, Korg Drum Volca, Korg Sample 2 Volca.
What advice would you give to someone setting up their first home studio?
Biggest pieces of advice I could give are to: 1) whenever possible, pick the best space possible in your home for your studio, rather than to take the “leftovers.” Your space should ideally take into account the shape and size, but also elements that are healthy, like sunlight! 2) The enemy of good is perfect. You can go down so many rabbit holes, trying to achieve perfect acoustics, perfect power management, etc. 3) Invest in a really good pair of studio monitors and an audio interface that is built for the long game (as many inputs as possible, durable, high quality preamps).
Keep creating music that moves
From lively performances to intricate sound design and inspiring studio setups, these creators truly embody what it means to make music with passion and innovation.
