Developer Aqua Node has released a collection of 20 free and open-source plugins for Windows.
The plugins are free to download in VST3 format for Windows directly from the developer’s Gumroad page. All downloads include the open source code (JUCE) for anyone who’d like to expand on the existing code, or compile macOS or Linux versions.
Aqua Node is a sound designer and musician who likes to combine aquatic soundscapes with Dub Techno and Intelligent DnB. You’ll hear some of that aquatic inspiration throughout this collection.
I’m stretching for a connection here, but if you like a quirky movie soundtrack, check out The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.

The Aqua Node Plugin Suite covers a wide range of sound design tools, from a workstation environment for testing to spring reverb and FM synthesis.
Here you can browse the entire list:
- Precision Utility – artificial latency, phase inversion, channel panning utility
- AudioStretcher – time and pitch shifter
- CepstrallR – IR Convolver IR generator
- SpectralCompare – spectral gate/filter/enhance
- pitchControl/NoteControl – colorbass filter/FFT
- SimpleSAW – testing workstation environment
- Slicer – intelligent drum slicing
- Granulate – sample granulator
- TapElectric – tape deck noise
- Resonate – five-voice resonator
- anyFM Sidechain – sidechain FM modulator
- Grainfreeze Tonality – spectral freeze
- Droplets – water bubble modelling
- FM12 – simple FM synth
- Springer – spring reverb
- AliasSynth – deliberate aliasing synth/sample player
- AutoMorphEQ – morphing EQ
- CenterComb – flanger-like comb filter
- EQ Octave – EQ ctave resonator
- BandpassModulator – modulating filter
As you can see, there’s plenty to get stuck into, but AliasSynth seems most immediately interesting to me.
If any of you JUCE wizards create macOS versions, let us know.
In a comment on Rekkerd, the developer states that AI assistants were used to code the plugins, but not to generate ideas, run testing, or carry out design tasks. Aqua Node also states that none of these plugins/tools generate AI music.
