Merrymoon Synthesizers update its MiniMogueVA emulation of the Minimoog to version 3.0 (Windows-only).
I’m sure the Windows users among us are already very familiar with Merrymoon’s MinimogueVA; it made Tomislav’s list of the best free hardware synth emulations a decade ago.
I’m also sure that over the years, some Mac users experienced a sense of missing out on this freebie.
Not only does it sound fantastic, but it also emulates, arguably, the most iconic analog monosynth ever, the Minimoog.
MiniMogueVA isn’t a direct clone, as it has some features not found on the Minimoog or Minimoog Voyager, but it gets very close to that unmistakable sound.
MinimogueVA 3.0 looks virtually identical to its predecessor but builds on foundations laid by the previous release with some notable enhancements.
At a glance, the only discernable change to the interface is the addition of a filter cutoff slider in the Delay section to emulate the bucket brigade delay effect.
All of the popular features from the last release are present, like Poly Mode (five-note polyphony), along with the arpeggiator and the 16-note step sequencer.
A big thank you to BPB reader Akira who made the demo video below:
Version 3.0 (now in 64-bit VST2/VST3) features a new high-quality oscillator, delivering a brighter sound. MinimogueVA 3.0 sounds excellent for all the Minimoog classics: Parliament-style funk leads and basses, Hip Hop leads, soaring psychedelic leads, and even more with Poly Mode. Herbie or Bernie Worrell fans will be in their element with this one.
Other new features include:
- Updated zero-delay filters
- New envelope curves (modeled after the Minimoog)
- 12dB (SEM) filter has a crossfade slider between LP and HP
- Moogfilter has an overdrive slider
There’s no better way to describe a synth than to let you hear it, and thanks to our reader, Akira, we can do just that.
Akira put together a demo video showcasing a wide range of sounds. You can hear the brightness from that newly enhanced oscillator in some of Akira’s patches; it sounds great.
If you’re a Windows user, go get it!
Now, to repeat myself, as promised, here’s another reminder to enter our Decadence Trailer Toms giveaway while you can; there are only a few days left.
I might as well repeat myself again by saying Trailer Toms is possibly the best library of its kind I’ve ever heard; it sounds epic, and it’s ready to go.
