BlepFX releases two new plugins, including Prisma ($20+) and the FREE Destruqtor for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
BlepFX is a brand-new indie developer debuting with two new plugins: Destruqtor and Prisma.
Destruqtor is available to download for free with a pay-what-you-like option.
Before I get into the plugin features, I want to briefly mention the installation process. BlepFX uses a terminal-based installer and provides instructions for using Terminal on macOS and Powershell on Windows.
You can also manually install the plugin by dropping the CLAP/VST3 files into the correct folders (guide provided). However, OSX users may have to disable Gatekeeper to allow the plugin to run.
Destruqtor is a simple but creative companding distortion plugin that adds punch and warmth without sacrificing your dynamic range.
It does so by applying “expanding compression before the waveshaper, and an opposite compression after the effect.”
Destruqtor
Although Destruqtor only has a few controls, it’s a simple plugin that gets a lot done. As the name suggests, you can go for all-out destruction, but you can also apply the sort of subtle saturation that adds general warmth and impact in key areas.
The minimalist (fully resizable) GUI has a large X/Y pad that allows you to control the amount of odd and even harmonics the effect adds. The filter cutoff slider enhances the effectiveness of the X/Y pad by controlling which frequencies the plugin distorts and which are bypassed unaffected.
Between the two controls above, you can go after a far more refined distortion/saturation than some typical plugins would allow, creating the desired effect without losing finer details.
Double-clicking the VU meter will provide more control over gain settings; otherwise, Destruqtor sets the gain automatically based on the incoming signal.
If you want more free distortion, check out iZotope’s Trash Lite and, of course, our BPB Dirty Filter Plus.
Prisma
I like the minimalist approach taken by BlepFX; it gets to the point fast, and the same is true of the developer’s other release, Prisma.
Prisma is a chromatic manipulator that can turn a simple loop into something much more exciting and colorful.
It is a pitch quantizer with pitch/formant shifting, and if you’re into the color bass, melody, and emotion-driven dubstep sound, you should enjoy this one.
Prisma is also available with a pay-what-you-like option, starting at $20.
Destruqtor and Prisma are available in CLAP and VST3 formats for macOS (10.8 and higher), Windows (8 and higher), and Linux (glibc 2.30 and higher).
