Cherry Audio updates Trident Mk III and Mercury-8 synthesizers

Cherry Audio has announced an update to its software synthesizer that recreates the iconic multitimbral experience of the 1981 Trident analog synthesizer.

Version 1.0.16 of Trident Mk III introduces new effects from the Mercury-8 JP-8 emulation, and allows easy sharing of saved effect chains between both synthesizers. The “Click Here to Save” command in the Effects section lets users save and load effect chains.

Cherry Audio’s Trident Mk III synthesizer is a stunning virtual instrument that not only revives the multitimbral experience and sonic capabilities of the original Trident Mk I and Mk II hardware synths but also exponentially enhances them, offering an unparalleled combination of innovation and authenticity.

The update add the following effects to Trident Mk III:

  • DCO Chorus: Inspired by the stereo chorus of the Juno 60, this adds rich, swirling movement to analog pads and is great for beefing up textures with that classic 80s spread.
  • Panner: Brings movement to your preset in the stereo field. Use it to animate a wandering pad, give your lead a swirling stereo motion, or place layers dynamically across the stereo field.
  • Pulser: A flexible 16-/32-step gate/sequencer to inject rhythmic motion into sustained sounds. Use it as a programmable tremolo, stutter, or step-gate engine that sits on the end of your signal chain.

Additionally, Mercury-8 has been updated to version 1.0.12 to introduce a new setting that enhances the user experience when using MIDI controllers with this multi-layered instrument.

The new “MIDI Mapping Only Affects Visible Controls” option in Settings/Interface (above) now allows users to assign the same control and MIDI CC to functions in both layers. When enabled, only the currently displayed layer will respond to adjustments, enabling users to easily switch between layers and independently modify parameters such as cutoff and ADSR with a single set of controls. For complete details, check out the updated MIDI Controllers Setup and the MIDI Tab section of the online Mercury-8 User Guide (see New: Mercury-8 Layers, MIDI, and Focus).

Existing users can get the updates by using the Sync app or downloading them from the website for free. New customers can purchase Trident Mk III and Mercury-8 for $69 USD each at Plugin Boutique, AudioDeluxe, and from the Cherry Audio store.
