Doja Cat posted a carousel of photos including one with her looking shocked and another with a blanket clinched between her buttocks. In her initial caption, Doja put her father on blast for his absence in her life, calling him a “deadbeat,” and also claiming that he will inspire her next album.
The eccentric artist called out her father, Dumisani Dlamini, famed South African dancer, on Monday (May 27) via Instagram. “Dad, lemme know when/if you need me to re-up your makeup cabinet cuz you a bi**h,” she first wrote before editing it to, “I’m gonna turn you into my next project and y0u’re gonna have to listen to it for the rest of your god forsaken life.”
Currently, the caption to the post reads, “jk love you i was mad.” See below.
Despite Doja cleaning up her captions, the internet never misses a beat. In her comment section, fans began to call her out for disrespecting her father, as others championed her behavior.
One fan wrote, “That’s so disrespectful….. do it again.,” as the Scarlet rapper responded, “Go give the deadbeat a kiss on the lips for me.” In another response she joked that her father, “Gave me a lazy eye and dipped.”
Another person recited the scripture Exodus 20:12: “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.”
Doja, neé Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, has spoken on her biological father previously, explaining that she knows of his existence, but lacks a relationship with him.
“He’s an incredible dancer and a great actor. But yeah, I don’t know him very well,” she told Leah Henry of Radio One D.C. in 2019.
Dlamini has also spoken on his superstar daughter while speaking with GQ South Africa last year. “I’m so proud of her for what she has achieved. I’m not surprised, because it’s in the blood,” he said.
