Drake is ready for his next era. Taking to social media, the Canadian rapper detailed how the “next chapter” of his life and career might not please everyone.
In the Monday (March 10) Instagram carousel upload, the “God’s Plan” rhymer shared multiple images, including a picture of an OVO Sound sweatshirt that reads, “Free the Man Dem,” various selfies, nausea medication, and a screenshot from the 2017 film Phantom Thread starring Daniel Day-Lewis.
“U know I grew up non confrontational and always treated this game as a sport where my pen won gold, but my these days the podium has been hard for all of us to ignore,” wrote the 38-year-old. “I understand that this next chapter may leave you feeling uneasy, but I hope you see my honesty as clarity not charity that answers some questions especially about the unanswered texts you’ve been sending me.”
The warning comes after last month’s chart-topping release $ome $exy $ongs 4 U. The collaborative effort with PartyNextDoor issued on Valentine’s Day reached the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart in its debut week, marking Drake’s 14th no. 1 album.
Prior to the anticipated R&B fueled release, the Grammy-winner hinted at new solo work which could be the inspiration behind the ominous Instagram post. His last solo, full-length album was 2023’s For All the Dogs.
“Eventually, when the time is right, Drizzy Drake alone by himself is gonna have to have a one-on-one talk to y’all,” he exclaimed to an excited audience on his now-postponed Anita Max Win tour. “When the time is right, I’ll be back with another album — a one-on-one conversation with y’all that you need to hear.”
