WaveMind just released an update to their overdrive plugin, Shoeless Drive, in collaboration with YouTuber Rensington.
The effect is in its 2.0 version, offering improved features and bug fixes, and might be a versatile drive unit for guitarists.
Check out a demo here:

The layout is relatively simple, and the heart of the plugin is the panel in the middle with knobs labelled “level”, “drive”, “shape” and “mids”.
The level knob lets you control the overall volume of the unit and the drive knob is the overdrive amount.
Turn it to the left to approach a more subtle, bluesy sound, and go to the right for that distorted metal crunch we all know and love.
Shoeless Drive gives you additional tone shaping possibilities with the “shape” and “mids” knobs.
Shape applies either asymmetrical, symmetrical, or a mix of both clipping styles to your sound, controlling what sort of harmonics are added.
Low values on the left side will generally sound smoother and duller, while cranking it all the way to the right will create more edge, bite, and aggressiveness thanks to the combination of both even and odd harmonics.
Mids lets you apply one of two selectable EQ curves to your sound. Drag it towards the left for a darker tone and towards the right for a brighter tone with more attack.

Perhaps you have your drive amount dialed in, but need to change the tonal character momentarily for a solo or overdub. Changing or automating the Mids parameter is a nice way to do anything from subtle to more pronounced adjustments with broad brushstrokes.
Boosting with plugins such as Shoeless Drive necessarily means bringing up a lot of noise. This is where the gate parameter comes in handy. Set your threshold to keep the nastiness away and your signal as pristine and defined as possible.
The plugin also has two dedicated input and output knobs that work as a clean volume control in tandem with the gate, in case you don’t need any form of distortion. Sweet!
Shoeless Drive boasts a toolbar with presets, a built-in guitar tuner, and selectable oversampling to counter the worst aliasing for a more high-fidelity sound.
If you need a nice boost, drive, and distortion unit with gating and EQ capabilities, Shoeless Drive has got you covered, no matter if you’re a twanger or a chugger.
