Trackspacer is an award-nominated, one-of-a-kind plugin that is a classic favorite among producers and mix engineers.
It carves out frequencies from one track, into another track, creating a much-needed space in your mixes, hence the name.
One area where you would want to do this is for mixing kick and bass, where low frequency can build up and sound muddy.
This video shows how Trackspacer can come in very handy. It creates space for the kick to cut through the mix, while still keeping the bass present.
That’s far from being the only use of this plugin. Sometimes, you might be dealing with a lead guitar, say, and a vocal that are both important in the mix.
These sounds are typically mid-heavy, and they may be hard to hear one over the other. And Trackspacer can definitely come to the rescue once again.
Trackspacer is kind of like a sidechain compressor but on steroids. It will analyze your sidechain signal using its 32-band EQ, and then apply the reverse EQ curve to the main signal.
Now, a 32-band EQ might seem daunting to use, but you don’t actually need to tweak it at all, as this plugin is very easy to use.
The main panel only has 4 controls. Sidechain low and high pass filters, compression amount, and “freeze”.
The “freeze” control will let you freeze the EQ curve, so you can have the existing EQ curve be a static one, rather than dynamic.
You can also access the “advanced panel” for controls like panning, mid/side or left/right mode, attack and release, and sidechain filters.
All in all, Trackspacer is a straightforward but powerful plugin that is definitely worth having in your mixing toolkit.
