Humanizer Midi by Audiowavez is a Windows-only plugin that makes your MIDI tracks less static by subtly changing the velocity and timing of the notes.

If you’ve felt like your MIDI-generated melodies, chords, and rhythms sound clunky, hard, and robotic, you’re probably not alone.

Think of how a real piano sounds when you play it. Repeatedly playing the same note will yield some subtle variation because of “human error.” That’s the charm.

Moving every MIDI input by hand to change velocity and timing, to the contrary, might not be charming at all. It can also be boring and overwhelming if your project is crowded.

Here is where the Humanizer MIDI by Audiowavez comes to the rescue. You place it in front of the virtual instrument and use the simple interface to dial in a more authentic touch. The panel is separated into velocity controls, time-based controls, a VU meter, and a value display.

The velocity knob control the percent of random fluctuations. Furthermore, you can enable the “base” button to make the velocity fixed.

The time control fluctuates between minus 100ms and plus 100ms. Dial in the right amount of processing to make the groove sit in the pocket.

Humanizer is perfect when your tracks are too rigid, mechanical, and stale. It’s a quick way to stay in the moment instead of having to do a lot of laborious editing in the middle of the production session just to make the tracks behave in a proper way.

If you feel like you could do away with a million mouse clicks, this might be a tool you want to give a closer look at. There are only three parameters to control, so dial it in, set it, and forget it. This is nice for freeing up time and energy for more important stuff.

You could also try experimenting with automating these parameters for even more dramatic and expressive effects.

Installing the plugin is easy. You simply download it from the website and put the VST3 file in your designated VST folder. There’s no account registration, no email signups, or other caveats.

It’s fast and free, just the way we like it!
