Ice Spice has addressed her suspected “beef” with Latto in her Rolling Stone July cover story.
The Bronx star admitted that their feud began as “a joke” but it became a bigger thing when Latto “dragged it out.”
However, the 24-year-old clarified that if there is any real issue between them, it isn’t on her side.
“I feel like if we ever spoke and I asked her ‘What’s the issue?’ it’d be like a blank stare,” she predicted. “It’d really be no issue whatsoever. Especially from me.”
“I can understand a friendly competition, but I just feel like at this point it’s a joke that she’s just dragged out, and it’s just not even funny. Like, bro, ‘Think U the Sh*t’ is from January,” she continued.
“You’re going to post a piece of sh*t cake to announce something that’s good news for you? But it is kind of a compliment because you’re taking something that’s supposed to be a fun moment for you and you’re making it about me again,” she added.
Speculation of a rift began when Ice dropped her popular single “Think U the Sh*t (Fart),” which many believed took shots at Latto. In one part of the song Ice seemingly refers to Latto’s “Put It On Da Floor,” and in return the “Big Energy” rapper referenced “Fart” on her song “Sunday Service.”
“Think I’m the sh*t? Bi**h, I know it, h*e/ Jesus walked on water, I got ice boilin’ though,” the Atlanta star spit. To add fuel to the fire, Latto also posted a photo of a poop emoji cake she received to which she captioned, “Think I’m the s*t, bi**h?????,” which is a direct reference to Spice’s song.
Latto received the celebratory dessert for becoming the first woman to headline Atlanta’s Birthday Bash summer concert. “Holy Sh*t, You’re Headlining,” the cake read.
Latto spoke of her issue with Ice Spice in a recent cover story with Billboard where she downplayed engaging in a “real rap battle” with the “Deli” rhymer.
“If I was to do [a battle], it would have to be with somebody I feel like Imma go tit for tat with. I really don’t mean it as shade,” she began. “Would she even want to do that? I feel like she’s doing her in her lane. It’s two different types of vibes. I don’t even think she gives me like, ‘Oh, she wants to engage in an actual rap beef.’”
She went on, “Everybody gon’ take their lil jabs in the music, and it’s not even that serious to me; I feel like you should do that. Continue to! But as far as actual whole diss records to each other, I don’t think she would even want to do that. I feel like… would it even make sense? It wouldn’t.”
As Ice is dropping her debut Y2K! album tomorrow (July 26), and Latto’s releasing her third studio album Sugar Honey Iced Tea on Aug. 9 – both women may have even more perceived jabs for one another somewhere in their lyrics.
However, it seems that their on-wax “beef” isn’t that serious.
