The National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) has elevated long-serving senior employees Danielle Aguirre and Charlotte Sellmyer to new positions within the organization.
Aguirre has been named Chief Legal Officer (CLO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO), and will continue to oversee legal and business affairs as well as NMPA operations.
In addition, Sellmyer has been promoted to Executive Vice President, External Affairs, and will maintain oversight of songwriter advocacy, public relations, events, the Gold & Platinum Program, and external activities of NMPA.
“These promotions reflect the outstanding contributions Danielle and Charlotte have made to the industry.”

NMPA President & CEO David Israelite said: “These promotions reflect the outstanding contributions Danielle and Charlotte have made to the industry. NMPA has one mission – to protect and increase the value of songs. Danielle and Charlotte are key players in that mission, and their contributions are invaluable.”
Over her 15-year NMPA tenure, Aguirre has produced landmark agreements with major music platforms and litigated numerous successful rate proceedings before the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB).
The organization also highlights her “integral” role in crafting copyright legislation, including the Music Modernization Act.
After co-leading a team that developed the Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC), Aguirre currently serves as the statutorily designated non-voting publisher representative on its board.
Sellmyer, meanwhile, has served with NMPA for 11 years, and is credited with expanding the organization’s footprint to host major events across the country, as well as increasing its “efficacy and all efforts to advocate for the value of songs”.
Furthermore, she has led campaigns to pass major reforms including the Music Modernization Act, the designation and launch of the MLC, as well as multiple successful CRB litigations and settlements.
She continues to lead communications efforts to compel the licensing of major digital platforms from streaming to social media and AI.
Aguirre and Sellmyer are members of both the Recording Academy and the Country Music Association (CMA).
Last September, the NMPA elected Ralph Peer II as Chair of its Board of Directors, with Golnar Khosrowshahi, Founder and CEO of New York-headquartered Reservoir Media, named Vice Chair.
The leadership change followed the retirement of former Chairman Irwin Z. Robinson.
