The Wu Tang legend, Raekwon, recently had a collaboration with the NYC legend, Nas. But a leaked version of the track they did together, ‘Omerta‘ has hip hop heads around the globe talking and discussing the possibility of a diss. More importantly, to many, it seemed as if Nas dissed Jim Jones.

Now, it is also not the fans’ fault for making a leap in assumptions, especially considering the controversial Joe & Jada interview where Jim Jones responded to a Nas vs Jim Jones comparison by a 20-something year old online. However, the moment Jim Jones stepped into the conversation, it became a comment on peers as opposed to a fan discussion online.

What a lot of people also ignored is the way Jim Jones started the conversation: by giving Nas his flowers and how when Jim was in the 11th grade, Nas was his inspiration in terms of wordplay and style. On the flip side, he did double down on comparison stating ‘idols become rivals’ in hip hop in a spirit of competition.

But him saying things like he’s more relevant and that his son doesn’t know one Nas record is where things start getting too direct. Certainly not a stretch to assume that Nas would feel some type of way about this.

However, the truth of the matter is this: Nas did not retaliate or respond to the so-called snub by Jim Jones. The legend seems to be quite unbothered, and now, the air has been cleared by Raekwon himself. Recently, Raekwon took to IG live to address the matter once and for all, and reiterated good relations with Jim Jones.

He even revealed that the verse was scrapped because Nas wrote it before the interview, and because he could foresee people misconstruing his words as a diss to Jim Jones. If, one thing can truly be said about the whole fiasco, it is that these legends have once again kept it real and spoken their minds.

Raekwon’s new album The Emperor’s New Clothes is out now everywhere.
