Replicat Audio is offering the full versions of its Dolos distortion ($35) and LowFire multi-FX ($25) plugins for free until February 1, 2025.
Both plugins are macOS and Windows releases for VST3 and AU.
Normally both plugins are available in Lite (free) and full-priced versions, but currently, you can score the full versions for free thanks to the developer’s Still Alive in ’25 promotion.
To get Dolos and LowFire for free, head to the product pages, click the ‘Full Version’ button, then click through again to go to the downloads page.
You’ll then be prompted to create an account. Once you do that, you can download the zipped macOS or Windows installers with a single click.
The LowFire multi-FX plugin offers seven effects tailored for creating lo-fi sounds. BPB covered what it can provide upon the plugin’s original release in January 2023.
We haven’t covered Dolos on BPB before, so today let’s dig into what the distortion plugin can do, shall we?
Dolos is a wave-morphing hyper-distortion effect. Replicat Audio states that it can add complex, futuristic sounds to productions.
The developer notes that hyper-distortion refers to a highly distorted effect. The effect is created by complex waveform modulation and can be used to add depth and character to instruments or create unique sounds.
Wave morphing is a digital audio processing technique for smoothly transitioning between waveforms. The technique allows users to produce complex and evolving sounds that wouldn’t be possible with simpler waveform manipulation.
The devs aim to allow users to make and customize unique distortion effects with Dolos.
Replicat Audio uploaded six audio demos on a Bandcamp playlist to show what Dolos can do, showcasing the effect on full tracks, synths and drums.
There’s no official YouTube demo of Dolos, but several users have uploaded long-form YouTube demos, so there’s plenty of material online to hear what the plugin can do.
To my ears, Dolos can create a wide array of sounds thanks to the various mods and parameters available and can run the gamut from a subtle effect to total sonic devastation.
Replicat Audio suggested the following applications for Dolos: Hype drops and intros, savage sweeps, gnarly guitar tones, hyper pop vocals, trashy drums, broken synths and more.
I’d say these evocative descriptions are pretty accurate with what the plugin can offer.
The interface features a preset selector and graphical display at the top with a stereo oscilloscope and spectrum analyzer.
The plugin features four environmental mods as well as additional parameters below the graphical display for tweaking the output.
