Splice has steadily been releasing new tools, from generative AI tools to last year’s launch of Splice INSTRUMENT, a new flagship virtual instruments player. But Splice has another, bigger surprise up its sleeve – because the company’s newest venture is a brand-new, full-blown DAW.
That’s right, Splice Create comes as the brand’s central creative hub, allowing users to take full advantage of all of Splice’s plugins and royalty-free samples within a single DAW environment. It’s a way of streamlining the creative process; rather than having to swap out to your browser to scroll through Splice’s millions of samples, now you can search for sounds right from within the Splice Create timeline.
Of course, Splice is aware that some users will be switching over from other DAWs, so every effort has been made to make the transition easier. That includes the ability to switch through preset shortcuts that align with popular DAWs like Ableton Live, FL Studio, Pro Tools and more.
There’s also a ‘creative assistant’ that users can work with. The AI feature can carry out instructions and commands, like adding in certain strings or instrument tracks, or it can simply answer questions you might have about production without you having to leave the DAW space and consult a search engine. It’s like having a little tutor right by your side, which should be a good perk for people keen to train up any new production skills.
While Splice has made a point in backing human-made samples (proudly insisting that their entire sample library is human-made), their use of AI aims to assist users rather than putting a robot in the drivers seat. The assistant is there to, unsurprisingly, assist – it takes tedious tasks like organising your projects by grouping tracks into drum, bass or effects groups, so focus can remain on creativity.

For example, if you’re losing your mind trying to track down the right sample, you can get Splice Create to hunt through Splice’s library and find samples that suit the harmonic or rhythmic structure of your projects.
The entire process can also be controlled by voice too – meaning you can speak to your assistant, rather than just typing in a chat box. That could be beneficial if you’re keen to toy with your instruments while creating, or it could even be a massive benefit to people less able to grapple with a keyboard and mouse for long periods.
Splice Create also has a slew of other useful features, like a built-in synth, a wide range of effects, presets, and plenty of ways to help bring your track to the next level.
“Most music tools either make the song for you, or assume you already know how to do everything – Create is different,” Kakul Srivastava, Splice’s CEO, explains. “Splice Create is a music creation studio that helps you make the music you want. We’re clearing a path so that anyone who has felt the pull to make music, but has felt blocked by the process, can get started and share their unique stories with the world through song.”
The DAW has also already been given a green light from Skepta, with the producer claiming his newest Chase & Status collab, Innocent Smile, only came to fruition after working with Splice. “I’d been messing with Innocent Smile for years, added a break beat from Splice, and it came alive,” he praises.
“Create gives people just starting out that same feeling, and you pick up how it works as you go,” he adds. “Big up Splice, always there to cook with, even on my way to Ibiza at 30,000 feet.”
Splice Create is now available on Mac in beta.
