UVI has released a major update for their free sample player – UVI Workstation 4.
With this new update, they’ve also included the refreshed UVI Starter Soundpack, a collection of free samples for Workstation 4. Installing Workstation 4 will automatically install the free sound pack, which is very cool!
Feel free to watch the one and only Venus Theory walk through the features of this update.

The major features of this new update are aimed at creating a more fluid workflow for navigating UVI instruments.
For example, there are now tags for the instruments and a much improved search system, which can speed up your workflow quite a bit.
Later on, you can also mark your favorite presets to be able to find them more quickly.
UVI Workstation 4 also includes audio previews for every preset that you’ve got installed.
This can give you a good idea for what a preset sounds like without needing to load them, and help you audition sounds more quickly.
It seems like Workstation is becoming more comparable to something like Kontakt.
Unlike the full version of Kontakt, UVI’s Workstation is a free sampler, which opens the door for music producers on a budget.
Workstation can work as a multi-timbral engine, where you load up multiple instruments to create a unique sound.
It offers a lot of control over the layers. You can, for example, use velocity splits and key splits to customize how the MIDI input affects the sound.
Then mix the layers however you like, add send or insert fx to individual layers, and finally add a master fx chain to glue the sounds together.
It also includes other tools like an arpeggiator, UI scaling and global tuning control.
While Workstation 4 is a great free sampler, it can only load UVI instruments currently, so keep that in mind.
UVI Workstation 4 is a VST2, VST3, AU and AAX plugin for Windows and macOS machines. It is also available as a standalone program.
You can download it for free via the UVI Portal desktop app.
