voidDSP has released Echo1, a free modulated stereo delay plugin for Mac and Windows.
Echo1 has two independent delay lines, each with its own speed control. The Sync button locks both lines to the left slider value, which is handy when you don’t need the more complex interactions you get from running the two lines independently.
But I think this one really shines when you start having fun with stereo delays. It’s super easy to set up, and I highly recommend giving the stereo mode a try on arpeggiated synths.
Also, Echo1 goes beyond a basic delay with the additional processing modules that let you shape the wet signal.
The modulation section includes both a phaser and a chorus, each with adjustable rate and depth. These add some nice movement to the echoes and are probably the most interesting part of the plugin for sound design.
There’s also an integrated reverb with a Size control, which is useful for pushing the delayed signal into a more spacious or diffuse territory. This is especially nice on guitars with a subtle slapback and some reverb for added depth.
The Panner module lets you apply tempo-synced auto-panning at four selectable speeds with an adjustable width control. There’s also a filter module with a high cut and a low cut, which lets you clean up the delay so that it sits in the mix without muddying up the low end.
The output section features separate Dry and Wet knobs rather than a single blend control, giving you a bit more precision when dialing in the balance.
There’s also a master bypass and individual bypass buttons for each module, so you can toggle sections on or off without disturbing your settings.
Everything is clearly laid out and easy to find, and despite the number of controls on offer, nothing feels cluttered or hard to navigate. I like how Echo1 covers a lot of ground without becoming difficult to use. It also ships with four built-in presets to get you started.
Echo1 is available for free download directly from the voidDSP website (no registration required). You simply click the download link for your platform and install.
It comes in VST3 and AU formats for macOS 13 and higher on both Intel and Apple Silicon, and Windows 8 through 10 on x64 processors. AAX support is listed as coming soon.
