J. Cole may have a reputation for being a chill guy, but even he can lose his cool every once in a while — according to Wale.

Appearing on the latest episode of UPROXX’s Sound Check series, the D.C. rapper recalls watching his longtime friend and collaborator get “really mad” during JAY-Z‘s The Blueprint 3 Tour.

“Boy, I got some stories. You know Cole — he might hate me for this — he’s so calm. Nobody has ever seen Cole lose his temper. Ever. Oh, boy!” says Wale, who was an opening act on the 2009/2010 tour alongside Cole, Jeezy, N.E.R.D. and Trey Songz.

“The last day of tour, we go to Jay’s suite or something, everybody’s up there. We had to leave — it was me, Ib [Cole’s manager], Trey [Songz] and somebody else. We get down by the bus and all I remember is Cole going at it with the tour manager.

“Bro, to this day I’ve never seen him that mad! He was really mad. I’ll never forget that.”

Though Wale doesn’t divulge what made J. Cole so angry, he does add: “All I know is I was just in shock. This guy’s always telling me I’m crazy. Like, you crazy too!”

Elsewhere in the episode, Wale picks between classic songs from JAY-Z, Biggie, Lauryn Hill, Future, Juvenile and more as host Jeremy Hecht attempts to grasp his music taste and figure out his “lifetime anthem.”

Folarin fans may fall in love with their own new favorite song on his eight album Everything is a Lot, which hits streaming services this Friday (November 14).

Led by the singles “Blanco,” “City On Fire” and “Belly,” the 18-track project boasts an eclectic supporting cast that includes Leon Thomas, Ty Dolla $ign, Shaboozey, BNYX and Nino Paid.

“One of the underlying things is how heavy everything is in the world around me, my personal life, and the industry,” he said of the album in a recent interview with Billboard. “I carried all of that with me and got it out of my system through this project.”
