What do Diddy and Liam Payne have in common? Well, aside from the fact they both made music, the underlying commonality is the elusive pink cocaine.

As Sean Combs continued to face a mountain of sex trafficking and abuse allegations, March brought about accusations that he had enlisted Yung Miami to transport pink cocaine to him on various occasions.

Court documents filed by Lil Rod claimed that the mogul also had his alleged “drug mule,” Brendan Paul, transport and move pink cocaine for him to have it ready for recreational use. And then in September, as Diddy was indicted, federal prosecutors revealed that his infamous “Freak Offs” included the recreational use of pink cocaine, amongst other substances, to “keep the victims obedient and compliant.”

Liam Payne, the artist formerly a member of the pop boy band One Direction, recently died after falling from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. According to ABC, a partial autopsy done on the singer revealed that Payne had multiple drugs in his body during the time of his death—including pink cocaine. Sources close to Payne and members of the hotel claimed to have seen the singer acting “irate” and at times “unhinged” shortly before his untimely demise.

We all know that it continues to pop up in some of the year’s biggest stories, but what exactly is pink cocaine? VIBE runs down what this cocktail drug is and what it does to people.

  • So… What Is Pink Cocaine?

According to WebMD, pink cocaine is a newer cocktail drug hitting the streets. The drug has taken on a multitude of other names, such as PC, Tusi, Tuci, Tusibi, and Tucibi. Its multiple Tusi-like nicknames come from the pronunciation of the psychedelic group of drugs, 2C, which is said to have been initially found in the first batch of pink cocaine.

The drug has been traced back to Colombia, but not much is known about the exact origin. And if you’re wondering whether the drug actually contains cocaine, well, that depends. Due to the fact the drug is made on the streets, there isn’t an official ingredient listing for pink cocaine. However, the drug may include actual cocaine sometimes.

The drug is typically comprised of other illegal substances and ketamine and dyed with pink food coloring. Drugs often found inside of Tusi can include methamphetamine, MDMA, hallucinogens, crack, bath salts, benzodiazepines, caffeine, and even new unnamed “psychoactive substances.”

According to NBC, the drug is often described as smelling like strawberries or something similarly sweet for reasons unknown.

What exactly does pink cocaine do to people? Well, this can be difficult to pinpoint because the drug often includes random amounts of other drugs. Another factor that could alter the way the drug affects people is whether alcohol was also consumed. However, there are some common side effects found in most batches of the designer drug.

WebMD reports that pink cocaine is comprised of stimulants and depressants, resulting in clashing moods and heavy states of confusion. Because of this mixture, other side effects include “hallucination, strange thoughts, agitation, and feelings of sickness,” as well as altered states of mind resulting in more physical altercations like assault, abuse, and uncontrollable rage.

For example, before Payne’s untimely death, Telemundo reports that Payne was distressed and attempting to “break the whole room” in his drug-induced mania.

  • Could Pink Cocaine Be Deadly?

Absolutely. The mixture of various drugs and the random effects of each substance could lead to the user overdosing on the potent concoction. Due to the hodge-podge of substances found in the Tusi, experts have likened taking the drug to a game of “Russian roulette,” per Newsweek.

There have been various reports of people overdosing on the designer drug and people killing other people or themselves while on Pink cocaine.

NBC News 15 reports that Instagram influencer Maecee Lathers was detained and sent to prison after allegedly killing two people in a car crash while high on pink cocaine. Lathers’ Mercedes drove through a red light and smacked into a Range Rover, with both cars then hitting two more vehicles before stopping.

The self-proclaimed IG model attempted to flee the scene before being stopped and detained by police. When law enforcement questioned her, the woman claimed to be “from the future and had a crystal ball.” After the toxicology report confirmed her use of pink cocaine, Maecee Lathers now faces DUI manslaughter charges for the two deaths.
