Developer yg331 has released Relief Compressor and Relief EQ, a pair of free mixing plugins available in VST3 and AU formats for Windows and macOS.
These are the first releases from yg331, an independent developer who is passionate about mixing and DSP design (a wonderful combination of interests that typically results in some nice plugins for us regular people).
Both plugins are built with double-precision 64-bit processing, and the primary purpose behind their design was to provide reliable tools for daily mixing and mastering tasks.
Relief Compressor
Relief Compressor is a flexible dynamics processor suitable for everything from gentle bus compression to tighter track-level control.
It offers several detector options (Peak, RMS, Linear, Logarithmic, and even a Hilbert-based detector). Obviously, each has its own sonic characteristics, so it’s like getting five compressors in one.
The Logarithmic detector, for example, excels at peak control with precise attack timing, while the Linear mode feels punchier and more open.
You also get a fixed 0.5ms lookahead powered by a Kaiser-Bessel FIR filter, which helps catch fast transients cleanly.
I also like that there’s a dedicated sidechain EQ section, offering a two-band EQ with selectable filters and shelves. This lets you shape the sidechain signal with surgical precision.
With all of these features packed into its unassuming, almost scientific-looking interface, Relief Compressor feels like a Swiss Army knife for handling most compression tasks. I love it.
Relief EQ
Relief EQ follows similar principles. It’s a super flexible digital equalizer designed for transparency and musical operation.
Like the compressor, it runs entirely in double-precision and upscales to 88.2 or 96 kHz for internal processing when operating at 44.1 or 48 kHz. This minimizes cramping artifacts, especially in the high end, and keeps the EQ curves sounding more analog-like.
The developer delves deeply into the design philosophy behind the EQ. Everything, from filter topology to oversampling choices, is considered carefully.
Relief EQ aims to strike the perfect balance between clinical accuracy and musical feel. The subtle design decisions, like shelf filter shapes and Gain-Q dependencies, give it a natural response that makes it more intuitive to use.

Both plugins are thoughtfully designed and well-documented on the developer’s GitHub, where you can also download them for free.
No registration, activation, or installers are required. Just grab the files and drop them into your plugin folder.
Relief Compressor and Relief EQ are available in VST3 and AU plugin formats for Windows 10+ and macOS 10.13 or later (Intel and Apple Silicon). They’re fully native and run with no external dependencies.
