From developer Audio Fusion Bureau comes RoomDiY, a free acoustic room simulation plugin for macOS and Windows.

RoomDiY offers advanced real-time acoustic modelling and room analysis.

In short, the plugin allows you to design the ideal acoustic space for any given project.

We’ve covered many convolution reverb plugins that offer impulse responses of real-world spaces, like LongTail Audio’s KonvIR Lite and the excellent hybrid reverb/delay Airspace by ModeAudio.

This time, we are the architect, and we can build a space from the ground up with custom room dimensions, wall materials, and acoustic properties.

You can also adjust the source and listener positions in your virtual room with up to eight independent audio sources.

Acoustic treatment objects, including Absorbers, Reflectors, and Diffusers, are available to use and position as you choose.

Immediately, it’s easy to imagine various scenarios in which RoomDiY could be useful.

The first might be if you’re trying to tackle real-world problems and make the best of an imperfect space.

When highlighting this plugin in our Deals & Freebies thread, BPB reader Francisco Jose discussed using RoomDiY to address issues such as bass buildup and problematic frequencies that come with an asymmetrical space (thank you, Francisco).

The next use case might be when you want to step outside of real-world possibilities and create an immersive or unrealistic space.

Positioning the building blocks to design a custom space sounds straightforward, but a lot is going on under the hood.

RoomDiY calculates the impact of all acoustic treatment objects in your space to accurately model sound energy absorption and reflections.

Moreover, RoomDiY also analyses your room to generate AI-driven technical reports, including RT60 reverb time calculations and frequency analysis.

As noted by the developer, some of these functions are quite CPU-intensive (see the stability notice on the product page).

The free version of RoomDiY has some limitations, such as a room size limit of 100 m².

A Pro (paid) version of RoomDiY is available if you want to remove the restrictions of the freebie.

RoomDiY is available in AU, VST3, and AAX formats for macOS (10.15 or later) and Windows (10 or later).
