E-A-Ski brings decades of Bay Area production experience into the B-50, a new analog preamp built with audio designer Tom Hilbe.
E-A-Ski is turning decades of studio instinct into hardware with the B-50 analog preamp he developed alongside audio designer Tom Hilbe.
E-A-Ski said in a statement announcing the unit that preserving analog character became the driving idea behind his collaboration with Hilbe.
“Feeling that audio quality has been compromised by digital technology, it was my goal to create high quality sound through analog recording technology that would seamlessly translate into the digital age.”
The E-A-Ski B-50 is a two-slot 500-series mono microphone preamp and EQ built for microphones, drum machines and high-impedance electronic instruments.

T.H.E. Company lists the Los Angeles-made unit at $1,595 and says it uses Carnhill and Jensen transformers with three Melcor 1731 op-amps.
E-A-Ski emerged from Oakland’s influential Hip-Hop scene and became closely associated with work for Spice 1, Too $hort, Ice Cube, E-40 and Master P.
AllHipHop documented his Bay Area impact in 2005, tracing his role in the region’s first rise before his later work mentoring The Frontline.
His production credits eventually stretched beyond Northern California to artists including MC Ren, Naughty By Nature, Jayo Felony and Big Daddy Kane.
When AllHipHop asked about his longevity in 2010, E-A-Ski credited adaptation instead of trying to freeze Hip-Hop production in an earlier era.
“Not being stubborn, and always knowing that you can be better. You can reinvent and make new stuff. A lot of older producers and rappers get stuck in a time zone. They feel like older is better.”
That same interest in evolving studio technology makes the B-50 a logical extension of E-A-Ski’s work rather than an unrelated business move.
In the same AllHipHop interview, he explained that his musical ambitions were never supposed to stop at Oakland or the West Coast.
“That’s always been the goal. Being from the West Coast we looked up to the East Coast. I grew up on East Coast music and I’m a fan of East Coast music. Being in the music game, that was always my goal to be able to make something that could move everywhere.”
E-A-Ski was already discussing hybrid studio workflows then, praising equipment that preserved hands-on control while moving smoothly into Pro Tools and Logic sessions.
“To be honest with you I didn’t know what to think about it until I got it. The way the work flow is allows it to convert from hardware to software. The way the pads swing give you that MPC feel but it’s next level.”
That thinking now sits inside a physical product designed for engineers handling vocals, instruments and the drum machines that remain central to Hip-Hop production.
T.H.E. Company says the fourth batch contains 40 units and is scheduled to begin shipping August 27 to customers who secured orders.
