Hexant DSP has released a multiband hybrid pitch and frequency shifter plugin for Windows and macOS (VST3/AU).
Torsion combines musical pitch shifting and linear frequency shifting on a single insert, letting you morph between the two on the same signal. The Morph control blends semitone-based pitch shift with Hertz-based frequency shift, so harmonics can stay musical or drift into inharmonic, metallic territory depending on where you land.
The plugin splits the signal into Low, Mid, and High bands, each with independent Pitch, Freq, Morph, Tension, and Formant controls. This makes it possible to keep the sub-bass anchored and in tune while pushing the mids into growl territory and letting the highs go fully feral, all within the same instance.
Other notable features include:
- Diatonic mode: Tracks the incoming note and snaps the shift to a chosen scale and interval, so a shifted fifth stays inside the key rather than wandering off it.
- Two tempo-syncable LFOs: modulation is assigned by dragging a handle directly onto a target knob, with a colored ring showing depth; a single LFO can be mapped to multiple bands at once.
- HPSS and Trans+: Separates transients from the tonal smear so shifted hi-hats and other percussive material keep their attack and click.
- Sub-Anchor: Holds the kick’s fundamental steady while everything above it shifts.
- M/S width tools: Center Lock, Side HPF, and Mono Below for keeping the low end coherent in mono.
- Character and Degrade: Granular-style freeze/scatter/pitching-delay textures and one-knob bounce-down grit.
- Quality/Live engine switch: A delay-compensated mix engine for tracking, or a low-latency path for playing in real time.
- Five built-in profiles: Bass, Full, Perc, Tonal Mid, and Vocal starting points.
