Developer Leigh Pierce has released two free bass pedal plugins for macOS, Windows, and Linux.

The new releases are NoAmp Low Rider DI and Obsidian B7000, following Leigh’s earlier Tommy and Monarch of Tone guitar pedal plugins. The new pair moves the focus to classic bass DI and overdrive sounds.

NoAmp Low Rider DI is based on the Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI, with three selectable circuit revisions covering V1 Early, V1 Late, and V2. It basically attempts to cover different eras of the BDDI sound, from cleaner tone shaping to heavier clank, growl, and drive.

The plugin includes the familiar Presence, Drive, Blend, Level, Bass, and Treble controls across all revisions. The V2 mode adds a Mid control, Mid Shift, and Bass Shift for more tone-shaping range.

Obsidian B7000 is based on the Darkglass B7K Ultra, a modern bass overdrive/DI sound that has become very common in rock and metal bass production. Leigh says it emulates both the clean and distorted sides of the pedal, including the Ultra-style control set.

The Obsidian B7000 interface includes Master, Blend, Level, Drive, Bass, Low Mids, High Mids, and Treble, plus Attack and Grunt switches. It also has separate bypass and distortion footswitches, so you can use it as an always-on clean DI/EQ and bring the drive in when needed.

Both plugins use circuit modeling instead of AI, profiling, or static captures. Leigh built them from circuit analysis and component-level modeling, which means the controls should behave like a pedal circuit rather than moving between captured snapshots.

The shared feature set includes live and render oversampling options, resizable interfaces, built-in presets, input and output trim controls, and gain trim linking. The plugins are calibrated around the now common “Hi-Z input at 0” workflow, so they should sit naturally before amp sims and other bass processing chains.

I also like the interface designs here. They are clean and detailed without going over the top, which is exactly what I want from pedal-style plugins. You get enough visual detail to understand the hardware inspiration, but the controls stay easy to read.

NoAmp Low Rider DI and Obsidian B7000 are available as signed AU and VST3 plugins with installers for macOS. Windows and Linux users get unsigned VST3 builds and installers. The projects are open-source and licensed under AGPLv3.
