Joining us this week on My Forever Studio is multi‑platinum producer, multi-instrumentalist, and sample pack maker Kaelin Ellis. With his 11th studio album, GOVERNER, dropping this year, Ellis has some choice gear picks and anecdotes on Season 8, Episode 4 of the podcast, which is brought to you in partnership with Audient.
With production credits for artists including Vince Staples, Kaytranada, Tycho TOKiMONSTA, and more, Ellis is a revered streamer across Twitch and YouTube, sharing his production process with fans in real time. As expected, his Forever Studio ends up stylish and considered.
Listen below to hear how NBA Street helped lead Ellis to jazz and producer credits, how he develops “pocket” in his drumming, and how an upright piano he found backstage at a show made for one of his most vibey sample packs. As always, expect in-depth gear chat, and difficult decisions, studio stories and at least one obnoxious airhorn.
The My Forever Studio podcast – created in partnership with Audient – sees artists, producers, and engineers create their dream fantasy Forever Studio, wherever they want in the universe. However, hosts Chris Barker and Will Betts impose some strict rules in the Forever Studio. Our guests are permitted a limited number of items in their creative space, so they must choose carefully. There will be nostalgia. There will be anecdotes. There may be gags. But there will be no bundles!
