Saint Mike DSP has released Vocal Acrobatics, a vocal compressor plugin for macOS and Windows, and it is available for free for a limited time.

Vocal Acrobatics is all about keeping basic vocal processing simple. Instead of throwing multiple plugins into your vocal chain to control dynamics, this plugin aims to get you 90% of the way there with just a handful of controls.

If you like streamlined tools that let you focus on workflow efficiency rather than detailed tweaking, this one is worth checking out.

The interface couldn’t be more straightforward. You get a single Compression slider and three knobs: Gate, Response, and Output.

There are no individual parameters for attack, release, ratio, or threshold to worry about. Behind the scenes, Vocal Acrobatics uses a macro-style approach where multiple parameters are adjusted simultaneously as you move the central compression control and the response knob.

The Response knob controls the character of the compression. You can sweep from gentle, glue-style compression that subtly evens things out to a more aggressive sound that pins vocals right at the front of the mix.

I found the softer settings work well for pop and singer-songwriter vocals, while the harder end works nicely for rap, spoken word, or podcast-style voiceovers.

The built-in Gate is another welcome addition. It’s handy for cleaning up background noise, headphone bleed, or room ambience between phrases without loading a separate noise gate plugin. Dial it in carefully while listening to the output, and it should be transparent enough for most vocal takes.

According to the developer, Vocal Acrobatics also adds subtle saturation and tonal polish as part of its processing. It’s not something that jumps out as obvious distortion, but it does attempt to help vocals feel a bit thicker and more “finished” with minimal effort.

There’s also a built-in safety limiter on the output, so you don’t have to worry about unexpected peaks clipping your signal.

Saint Mike DSP’s vocal comp does not try to replace a full channel strip or detailed compressor, but for speed and simplicity, I think it does the job very well (especially at the price of free).

Vocal Acrobatics is available as a VST3 and AU plugin for macOS 12 or newer and Windows 10 or newer. The free offer is for a limited time, so it’s worth grabbing it sooner rather than later.
