If you’ve upgraded to the Serato DJ 5.0 public beta, released on 9 September, you may have opened your library to a familiar sea of red. The upgrade itself isn’t the culprit. Serato has moved its library from the old database V2 file into a pair of SQLite files, and whatever was missing before the switch comes across as it was. Nothing is lost, but nothing is fixed either.
There are two catches worth knowing about. Serato now rebuilds the crate folder from its database every time it launches, so any crate file it has never registered, such as one copied from a backup or another laptop, can quietly disappear. And a track on an unplugged drive shows the same red as one that has actually been deleted. In a 50,611-track library tested by Music Library Doctor, 7,270 files were flagged as missing, yet 926 of those were simply on external drives that weren’t connected.
That distinction matters. Relink or delete a track that is only offline and you risk losing its cues and crate history for no good reason.

Close Serato, add your music folders including any external drives, plug in what you still use and run a scan. The app separates offline tracks from those that are really gone, then matches missing files to moved or renamed versions using filename, size and audio fingerprint. You can preview each proposed relink before committing, and your Serato folder is backed up before anything is written. Reopen Serato and the repaired paths are imported on launch, with hot cues, loops and beatgrids left intact.
Scanning is free, with a paid tier for repairs. One word of caution: Serato itself advises against playing gigs on the beta until the full release, so keep your current setup for the booth.
