This is a recipe that worked many times in the past. A trap or rap song with a female vocal hook was always something that drew attention. This time Texas hip-hop powerhouse BigXthaPlug joins forces with global pop sensation Ava Max for their collaborative single “Burn” (part of the project “Better Over Time”).This fascinating fusion of gritty southern trap and soaring, stadium-ready pop-melody is among the new releases this week that drew my attention maybe because it sounded familiar as a structure. BigXthaPlug remains a rising rapper and fiercely authentic, while Ava Max elevates the track’s chorus into a massive, radio-friendly anthem. In the past decade this would be a hit all over the place. What about today?
