Dutch synth company AnalogFX has unveiled the LARYNX, a new “performance-focused” analogue synthesizer inspired by the Syrinx, made by long-defunct fellow Dutch brand Synton.
A 37-key unit built on AnalogFX’s loved SER-2020 architecture, the LARYNX also features an aftertouch keyboard, extensive realtime modulation capabilities, and a unique triple-filter formant architecture, too.
While the hard-to-find original Syrinx is unlikely to end up on your rack due to its scarcity, the LARYNX is similarly rare, released with an initial run of just 50 units.
AnalogFX has equipped its take on the synth with an ostensibly similar design, including the rectangular Touch’n’Bend bender in a similar position. It naturally has far more features and inputs, befitting a modern synth.
At the heard of the unit are two CEM3340-based voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs), a sub-oscillator, a Noise Generator, and a triple filter consisting of PEAK 1, PEAK 2 and LPF (Low Pass Filter), all of which combine to offer a wide sonic range capable of everything from “deep analogue basses and cutting leads to evolving textures and speech-like timbres”, the brand says.

LARYNX also boasts a five-voice oscillator Chord Mode in addition to monophonic and duophonic operation, as well as a Formant Mode, which makes available 16 pre-programmed human voice formants.
There’s also a stereo delay, 16-step sequencer, and a built-in arpeggiator for further sonic exploration and inspiration.
In terms of connectivity, LARYNX sports MIDI IN/OUT, Expression/Sustain/Hold pedal input, stereo line output and a headphone input.
“With LARYNX, we wanted to create an instrument that feels alive under your hands,” says AnalogFX Founder and Lead Developer Marc Stroobach. “It’s inspired by some of the most expressive synthesizers ever made, but designed for today’s musicians who want immediate control, deep sound shaping, and a genuine connection between performance and sound. Every AnalogFX instrument starts from a passion for music and a belief that synthesizers should inspire creativity, not get in the way of it.”
