US hip-hop duo Suicideboys (aka $uicideboy$) are reportedly being sued by Rough Trade and Beggars Music in the UK.

The legal dispute stems from the duo’s alleged unauthorized sampling of composer Mica Levi’s BAFTA-nominated score for the 2013 film Under the Skin.

That’s according to a report from legal news outlet Law360, which reports that the Suicideboys track in question, What the Fuck is Happening, had amassed over 115 million streams on Spotify by the time the claim was filed at London’s High Court in June 2025.

According to the complaint, the sample, which is taken from Levi’s composition Death, runs almost continuously through the song — occupying 1 minute and 23 seconds of its 1 minute 46 second runtime.

Rough Trade Records and Beggars Music — both part of London-based independent Beggars Group who has worked with Adele, Radiohead, and The Strokes — say they asked the duo to remove the track in January 2025.

But as of March 2, it remained live on Spotify, where it has over 123.5 million streams.

According to the Law360 report, the claim has also been extended to the rappers’ label entities, G59 Records and G59 Publishing.

Rough Trade and Beggars Music are seeking an injunction to stop the duo from distributing the track, the report added.

The complaint, cited by Law360, alleges the rappers and their label entities “deliberately intended to acquire commercial benefit for themselves from the artistic and commercial success of the film and of the soundtrack, and from the connection in the minds of listeners between the soundtrack and the film, by incorporating a recognizable and memorable part of the soundtrack into the $uicideboy$ song.”

The complaint added: “The sample forms a prominent part of the $uicideboy$ song, including in that it is repeated continuously for the first 1 minute 23 seconds of the 1 minute 46 second duration of the $uicideboy$ song.”

Neither side responded to Law360’s request for comment at the time of publication.

Levi’s score for Under the Skin – a sci-fi film directed by Jonathan Glazer and starring Scarlett Johansson – earned a BAFTA nomination for Best Original Music.

Separately, in other Suicideboys-related news, as reported last year, the duo’s masters and music publishing rights were reportedly on the market, with Harbourview understood to be the front-runner for the publishing catalog.Music Business Worldwide
