From developer Sampleson comes CollaB3 V2, a free vintage tonewheel organ emulation.
We see many free virtual instruments come along, so forgive me if I’m missing any! That said, I think CollaB3 V2 is the best free organ I’ve ever heard.
CollaB3 V2 is the latest update of Sampleson’s vintage tonewheel organ emulation, and it comes with some significant improvements.
It features an improved spectral-modeled sound engine, and it’s pretty impressive.
CollaB3 V2 delivers an authentic B3 sound, whether you want that classic percussive tone, funk rock attitude, to take it to church, or to take it ALL THE WAY TO CHURCH. It sounds fantastic.
Sampleson has recreated the full experience of a Hammond organ by adding subtle details like key-click noises and wood cabinet resonance.
CollaB3 V2 also includes more tone-defining elements like amp circuit emulation with distortion and a brand-new modelled Rotary emulation.
CollaB3 V2 comes in two versions, free and paid ($10 – it’s a steal).
The paid version includes a Rotary speaker settings page where you can tweak various speaker settings and mic positions.
Other updates include Native Silicon Support (Mac) and improved CPU efficiency.
The interface also looks fantastic, which is a nice bonus with a virtual emulation.
If you have a keyboard controller with physical drawbars, CollaB3 V2 is a perfect match. As well as the drawbars, you get percussion controls, reverb, leakage emulation, click intensity, and the must-have Rotary speed switch.
CollaB3 V2 is available in 64-bit AU and VST formats for macOS and Windows (it also runs in standalone mode).
Sampleson released the original CollaB3 in 2020 after teaming up with Librewave, LalalandAudio, and Studio427 Audio to bring studio-quality virtual instruments to everyone for free.
Seeing such a high-quality instrument available for free is awesome, and this latest update is greatly appreciated.
